Pavlovsk is located 27 km from St.Petersburg. This wonderful
summer residence of the Russian tsars is a wonderful example of the Russian
Classicism of the end of the 18th- beginning 19th
centuries. Simple in its appearance the Grand Palace still has an air
of austere grandeur. Built for Paul I, the most enigmatic figure in Russian
history, the palace boasts of its collection of the tsar's personal belongings.
Pavlovsk Park - one of the largest in the world - spreads over an area
of 600 hectares. Picturesque towers and summer-houses, romantic pavilions,
decorative bridges, sculptures and terraces are scattered there.
